GREAT HILLS RESERVE

HOMEOWNERS’ ASSOCIATION (GHRHA)

January 19, 2004 Meeting Minutes

A meeting of the Great Hills Reserve Homeowners’ Association (“the Association”) was held on Monday, January 19, 2004 at the home of Ajit Gokhale, GHRHA President.  Ajit called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.  The following members were in attendance:  Paul Helfinstein, Pat Dreiling, Amy Bruno Whelan, Sheri Brummett, Elizabeth Lescher and Joni Jones.

The minutes from the November 17, 2003 meeting were unavailable. They will be presented for approval at the next scheduled meeting of the board.

Old Business

An update on balloting for Amendments to the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions of Great Hills Section 24 was given by Pat. Only one more vote is needed to pass the amendment. Ajit volunteered to go door-to-door and ask those who have not yet voted to cast their ballots.

Assuming that the final amendment will pass, Elisabeth asked Ajit to get her a letter announcing the passage of all the amendments for the newsletter. Elisabeth has been holding the annual association directory since October in anticipation of delivering it with the next newsletter.

New Business

Joni reported that the Reserve sign on Yaupon Drive has been stolen. She obtained a quote of approximately $37 for one side (sign is two-sided) to replace the sign. The board voted to allow Joni to spend up to $100 to replace the sign.

Sheri reported that a few “Crime Watch” signs were also missing. The board authorized Sheri to buy up to three signs at $50 a piece at Triple A.

Joni mentioned a permanent “Your Speed Is” sign that she saw during a trip to Colorado. Ajit volunteered to try to find out more about the sign, and to let Jeff Hoogendam of the Dominion Homeowners’ Association know about the sign. Jeff is chairman of his association’s safety committee.

Pat reported that a neighbor had complained about the remodeling of the garage of a home on Yaupon. One bay of the three-car garage was converted to a room. Unfortunately, the added window does not align with the other windows across the front of the house. The board determined that there was nothing it could do since the remodeling was complete before this problem came to light. In addition, Pat relayed two requests to the board by Professor Touba regarding the home he building on Cissus Cove. First, Prof. Touba would like to move his house over approximately five feet. The result would be that his home would no longer flow with the curve of the cove. Second, he would like to have a smooth driveway, as opposed to the exposed aggregate seen throughout the neighborhood. The board voted to approve the request to move the house over five feet, suggesting that Prof. Touba ask his neighbors for their input. The board voted to disapprove his request to put in a smooth driveway, explaining that the covenants require neighborhood driveways to look similar.

Paul asked about the status of the Architectural Review Committee. The committee currently has a few members, but does not have a chair. The previous chair, Brenda Barron, was unable to find a replacement. Paul agreed to ask Karla Fredericks and Barbara Berkeley if they would be willing to serve on the committee. Ajit volunteered to ask Tom Manion to serve as chair.

The topic of a neighborhood wine-tasting event to be held in February was discussed. Sheri agreed to ask David Weekly Homes about using their open house. A tentative date of February 13 or 20 was set.

Regarding upcoming events:

·         Pat volunteered to check on the availability of Laurel Mountain Elementary School as the site to hold the annual association meeting. A tentative date of May 3 or 10 was approved.

·         Sheri agreed to schedule the fire truck for the association’s annual 4th of July parade. Although Sheri has organized the event in the past, she will be out of town this year. Consequently, someone else will need to volunteer to organize it.

·         The board voted to hold GHRHA’s annual Spring Fling in the late afternoon or early evening of Saturday, April 24. The location will be Blue Beach Cove.

Those in attendance were reminded that the next monthly meeting of the GHRHA is scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2004 at the home of Ajit Gokhale.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:04 p.m.               .
